the folks over at 1000 memories have done the coolest thing. they hacked the formula for the instagram filters. i find this absolutely awesome, given my propensity to film (as seen here and here) and definitely want to try to recreate them. of course, the nice thing about instagram is that its free, but i already have the diana, so i will definitely be trying that technique to recreate 'poprocket.'

seriously, how could you not find these hauntingly beautiful? i'd forgotten my love for photographer paolo roversi's work... but i'm very happy to have found him again.

film is not dead

i just ordered jonathan canlas' FIND (film is not dead) ebook and i am so excited that i'll probably start reading it tonight. in fact, i'll probably end up reading all 96 pages of the pdf tonight before i start packing my stuff for my 6:30 am flight back to nyc. packing of stuff that was 80% of the reason i came home for a few days. not the best plan, i admit, but i'm going to commit to it nonetheless. right after i finish this homemade chocolate peanut butter tart and wine.

i've actually been so intoxicated by film lately that i only brought my diana f+ for this trip. therefore, i have to wait until i get that film developed to post any photos. it's unfortunate that this infatuation with film is coinciding with my first real foray into being broke. but not in a cute, sitcom canned laughter way like in 2 broke girls. c'est le vie though. the pictures just feel so much more authentic to me in a way. perhaps because you're not really sure what you've captured until the negatives are developed. i don't know if you can tell, but all the photos included in this post were taken on 35 mm. they're a few years old, but i love them all the same.

 last thursday, I got home from a long day in which I interned and then hostessed back to back. When  I got home, I had a package waiting. A series of gifts from my boyfriend for our one year. Apparently he took the hint that I've been lusting after the Diana for a while now and purchased the body as well as the flash for me. Got the first batch of photos back today... got some great shots, but could use a bit of improvement. I am also happy I just have the basics right now. Letting go of control and learning how to trust myself will be enough right now. As much as I love my Canon, I'm excited to be back to the analog world.

 By the way, besides those first two, the rest of them were taken with Diana.
